For you Sofia: Mexican survival rules for blondes by Rana Rene

- The best food is made by grandmas or on the streets
- Light food is not healthy in Mexico…
- You CAN drink from the tap water… (just maybe not everyday)
- If someone asks you for money and you say no, don’t scare if they yell at you
- Wearing seatbelts in Mexico is a sign of lack of trust towards the driver
- If you ever get stopped by a police officer, 50 pesos (5chf) will be more than enough to keep going
- You can do almost anything or go anywhere with 50 pesos in Mexico
- Being blond in Mexico can be a blessing, but also a curse: Everyone notices you
- Don’t always trust Mexicans, we are easy going…but you are blond….
- You can get mad at guys if they don’t open the door for you
- Guys will always give you free drinks
- Get a mexican football jersey… everyone will give you even more free drinks
- You don’t really need money, you are blond…
- Learn to dance and some traditional mexican songs and you’ll be loved by everyone
- Mexican latin lovers do not exist…they just like to pretend they are…
- Mexican school system is really easy going…the best seats are on the back!!!
- “Ahorita”(= in a second) means later, unless its told in a raised voice tone, in which case it really means “now”
- “Al rato”(= later) means “I don’t know when”; if its said in a raised voice tone it means “never” - 5 pm means 5:30 pm…
- You should always eat something in the street after a party is over…that way no one can smell the alcohol in your breath
- Get yourself a shirt that reads: “No soy gringa”
- Mexican people name everything with cheese as “swiss”

Queretaro

If everything goes as expected, this is where Sofia will live....

Ya me voy...

The person you see below is Sofia, my younger sister. She will be going to Mexico for an Exchange Year with AFS, exactly like it did 6 years ago.
I wanted to give her something more personal as a good-bye present, so I created this blog for her.
Like this, she can keep her friends and family updated about what is happening in her life! And at the end of the year, she has a diary full of memories.
Before I hand over this blog to her, I want to say a few words:

I'm so proud of you! These past months haven't been the easiest for you, but still you never complained and kept going. I'm so happy for you, that you can have this experience and I wish you TODO LO MEJOR EN MEXICO. As I lived there myself, I can tell you that you will an amazing and challenging time... ENJOY EVERY MOMENT OF IT!

CUIDATE MUCHO! TE QUIERO MUCHISISISISISIMO!

Tu hermana Sara
